We are looking for an experienced MariaDB Consultant to join our team in Melbourne. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on expertise in MariaDB Galera Cluster, performance tuning, high availability, and secure database design. You will work with enterprise clients to design, implement, and manage scalable database solutions, ensuring stability, speed, and security in critical environments.
This is a key delivery role focused on both strategy and execution — ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, outcome-oriented settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, configure, and support MariaDB Galera Cluster solutions tailored for high availability and fault tolerance.
- Conduct performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies to maximize speed and reliability.
- Implement robust backup and disaster recovery plans, including testing and failover design.
- Ensure database security, encryption protocols, and audit trails for compliance in both on-prem and cloud deployments.
- Build automation scripts (Bash, PowerShell, Python, or Go) to support provisioning, monitoring, and maintenance tasks.
- Assist in integrating MariaDB with enterprise systems and cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP), including Kubernetes deployments with Crunchy or Zalando operators.
- Use tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and native diagnostics (AWR/ASH, SQL Server DMVs) for ongoing monitoring and analysis.
- Engage with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure the database architecture aligns with overall business and application goals.
- Provide troubleshooting support and contribute to documentation, operational runbooks, and solution handovers.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in database engineering or consulting roles with strong exposure to MariaDB Galera Cluster (Required).
- Deep knowledge of SQL, stored procedures, and database scripting using languages like PL/SQL, T-SQL, or pg/PL.
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, and hybrid database environments.
- Proficiency in Linux system administration, file system tuning, and storage performance at the OS level.
- Skilled in automation and scripting to streamline database operations and deployments.
- Experience working in cloud-native environments with exposure to RDS, Aurora, Cloud SQL, Azure SQL MI, etc.
- Solid understanding of Kubernetes orchestration for containerized database workloads.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present solutions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
